Update on Bird I-Witness Usage

All past data in Enggang and Suara Enggang were uploaded to the system!

Since the launch on 15 March 2008, the number of users has grown as well as their observation submissions. It's encouraging that some users are submitting their old sightings, but valuable data, that have not been submitted to Suara Enggang.

Please remember to enter not only the bird species you've seen, but also the number of birds seen and other details like sex, age and behaviour.

Past Records

At the launch of the site, only 1 year of old data (1988) were seeded into the system.

To ensure data integrity and accuracy, the Validation Team has been reviewing all the past data before they were passed to Worldbirds team to plough as seeding data.

Sightings recorded in Enggang and Suara Enggang from 1989-1999 are now uploaded to the database. Data analysis by location or species will be more meaningful.

The team is still working on the 2000-Feb. 2008 data. When all the back data is uploaded later this year, it will be a complete data analysis of all past & current sightings.

Davison, Kanda Kumar, Khoo Swee Seng, Lim Aun Tiah, Lim Kim Chye, Ooi Beng Yean, Ooi Chin Hock, Rafi Mohd. Kudus, Terry Ong, Veiven Goon and Yang Chong – took up the task of reviewing all past data from Enggang and Suara Enggang. They will continue to validate all future bird records for the website. The MNS-BCC Records Committee will continue to play its role in records vetting and rarities assessment.

We are also grateful to the following MNS volunteers for helping to transcribe the past data from Enggang and Suara Enggang into soft copy – Caroline Ho, Chee Pooi Ling, H.Y. Wong, Jaclyn Tan, John Steed, Josephine Lim, Karen Wong, Kerry Stansfield, Koo Siew Ching, Lim Bing Yee, Loh Tee Cheu, Lu Pingsu, Matthew Crabbe, Nina Cheung, Patrick Tan, Saliyaty Dora Mohd Ramly, Sarah Abedi, Yeo Yee Ling and Yip Hin Wai.
